Be The Light

“There is always light.”

From Amanda Gorman Young Poet Laureate in “The Hill We Climb” at the inauguration ceremony.

There are a lot of messages in her poem; but the final line resonated with me.

“...there is always light if only we’re brave enough to see it, if only we’re brave enough to be it.”

 Be The Light.

While her message was about uniting and rebuilding our country, her message applies beyond this.

Think about all we’ve been through.  All that you’ve been through in the past year: running your company, your department, your individual responsibilities, your life. Adapting, pivoting, rebounding, realigning, shifting, changing.  You’re more resilient today than you were a year ago.

Here we are less than 30 days into the new year, and while there is still much uncertainty, there is a light. Whether that light for you is the vaccine, the stimulus package, re-aligning between WFH and office, or heading to see your daughter who’s going to have a baby very soon (yup...that’s my light).

As a leader, it’s up to you to be the light.  Be the light for your organization, for your community, for your family.

Are you brave enough to see it? Brave enough to be it?
