Happiness

Saturday morning yoga inspired this blog post with a quote Joanna Silvers used to set the tone for our practice:  “Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, won or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude.” Denis Waitley

Building on my July 25 post on The Happiness Advantage, I’ve collected a few more insights and tips on cultivating happiness.  And what’s not to love about seeking and finding happiness?!?

Here are three additional resources I found this week that I am using to cultivate happiness.

1)    Jen Hatmaker’s podcast “Small Steps to a Happier Life” with Gretchen Rubin.  I enjoyed Rubin’s story about her journey that lead to her book “The Happiness Project”.  Jen and Gretchen talk about why it’s okay to pursue happiness in a world filled with hard things, and the little ways we can reach for a richer, more satisfying life. Gretchen shows how easy it is to work “happiness habits” into our lives and how these small steps can yield big, long-term results.  And there’s no one size fits all….everyone’s Happiness Project is different.

2)    Another insight from this podcast is that “You can create happiness by adding things to your life or by letting go of things that don’t bring you joy.”  Earlier this year, I did an assessment of all my activities and found that as I culled out those things that did not bring me joy, I was able to free up time to spend on the things that do give me joy.

3)    And finally, Jen Hatmaker’s podcast led me to listen to Episode 282 of Happiness podcast titled “Do good to feel good” with Gretchen Rubin and her sister Elizabeth Craft.  They share some great stories about how “Doing good for others has a carryover effect on you.”  Make a personal connection by doing something personally good for others.  Why not start your weekend off by doing something kind for someone else?

What tips do you have to cultivate happiness in your life and work?  Please share
